After You Lodge Your application
On this page
A sponsored visitor should not make arrangements to travel to Australia until they are advised that their visa has been granted.
Applicants over the age of 70 years must meet certain health requirements and hold health insurance to cover their stay in Australia. You are advised not to purchase health insurance or undertake health examinations until requested by the visa processing officer.
Processing time
The usual processing time for this type of visa is six weeks, however, this will differ depending on your and other circumstances.
Interview requirements
The department will contact the visitor if they are required to attend an interview. They may be requested to bring their passport and other supporting documentation to the interview.
Visa decision
The department will advise the sponsor (or authorised recipient) in writing of the visa decision.
If the visa is approved the sponsor should then forward a copy of this letter to the visitor.
This letter is important as it provides the:
- Visa Grant Number
- validity date of their visa
- visa conditions.
The visitor should send their passport to the nearest departmental office overseas to have the visa label place in their passport. Visitors should read all the conditions listed on the visa label and detailed in the letter.
See: Immigration Offices outside Australia
If the visa is not approved the letter will advise the:
- reasons for the refusal
- time limit for lodging an appeal
- review rights (appeal) through the Migration Review Tribunal.
See: Migration Review Tribunal
