Applying for this Visa

You can apply for a Tourist visa from in or outside Australia.

If you already hold a Tourist visa

If you already have a current Tourist visa, and you intend to apply for another Tourist visa, if the new Tourist visa is granted, it will:

  • come into effect as soon as it is issued
  • cancel (or cease) your existing Tourist visa.

If you already hold another visa

If you already have a current visa, and you are then granted a Tourist visa it may:

  • come into effect as soon as it is issued, and
  • cancel (or cease) your existing visa.

We recommend you contact your nearest Australian visa office before lodging a Tourist visa application if you already hold another visa.

Passport details

Your visa will be linked to the passport number you use in your application and you must use the same passport to travel to Australia.

Make sure your passport is valid for the period of stay you are applying for. If you obtain a new passport, you must advise the department of the new passport details before you travel to Australia. Otherwise, you will experience significant delays at the airport and could be denied permission to board your plane. Contact the Hobart Global Processing Centre with your new passport number.
