Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must have a confirmed medical treatment or consultation in Australia.
You may also be eligible if you are one of the following:
- accompanying someone who is a patient or donor
- coming to Australia as a patient under the arrangements between the Western Province of Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Department of Health
- already in Australia, over 50 years old, are an unsuccessful applicant for permanent residence failing only on the grounds of health, and are medically unfit to leave Australia.
You may not be eligible for this visa if you:
- have a medical condition that could be a threat to public health
- are the holder of a temporary visa 426 (Domestic Worker (Temporary) - Diplomatic or Consular visa) or the last substantive visa you held was a 426 visa
- have a condition attached to your current visa which does not allow a further stay. These conditions will appear on your visa label as 8503, 8534 or 8535.
Financial requirements
You must be able to provide evidence with your application that you have sufficient funds for the trip and treatment, and arrangements have been made for the payment of:
- your complete treatment plan
- other expenses related to your stay in Australia
- expenses of any person accompanying you
- expenses of the organ donor, if applicable.
You must be able to confirm that:
- adequate payment arrangements are in place for your treatment
- no Australian citizen or permanent resident will be disadvantaged in obtaining medical treatment
- any treatment in a public hospital has been approved by the State or Territory health authority concerned.
Your eligibility will be affected by your arrangements for returning to your home country, including realistic plans for ongoing nursing, recuperation or travel in the event of continuing health problems.
Health requirements
After you have made your application, you will be asked to undergo a health examination to ensure you are clear of active tuberculosis.

Children under 18 years of age
Applications for children under 18 years of age must include a consent form signed by the non-accompanying parent or legal guardian if the child is travelling:
- alone
- with only one parent or legal guardian.
