Step 1 - Organisation Applies to be a Sponsor


The sponsorship application and visa application must be lodged together. You should send your completed visa application to your sponsor who will lodge both applications with the department.

Sponsorship application

The sponsor must complete the sponsorship application and attach all necessary documentation.

Sponsorship fee

There is a fee for this sponsorship. However, in certain cases, under cultural⁄non–commercial performances, the sponsorship fee may be waived. You should contact the Sydney Entertainment Processing Centre for more information.

The sponsorship application checklist details the information and supporting documents that should be provided with the sponsorship application. Complete applications are likely to be processed more quickly. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, refused.

How and where to lodge the sponsorship and visa application

The visa application cannot be processed until the sponsorship application has been received. The sponsorship application and visa application must be lodged together.

If the sponsor is appointed to receive written communication on your behalf with the Sydney Entertainment Processing Centre, you must include with the visa application a completed Form 956.

Applications can only be lodged at the department's Parramatta or Sydney City offices. An application lodged at any other office is not a valid application and will be returned to you.

Applicants are advised to apply for a visa well in advance (4-6 weeks) of their intended date of travel.

Note: Applications lodged at the Sydney City Office will be forwarded to Parramatta for processing.

After you lodge the applications

The applications will be considered by the department. In some cases you may be asked to provide additional information to enable a decision to be made.

Sponsorship decision

If the sponsorship is approved, the department will send the sponsor an approval letter by post or email.

If the sponsorship is not approved, the department will send the sponsor a refusal letter by post or email advising of the decision, reasons for the decision and information about any review rights.
