Family members must meet the following eligibility requirements.
Family members
The following family members may be eligible to accompany the overseas participant:
- spouse
- dependent children.
Spouse
A spouse is a person who is married to the visa holder or is in a de facto relationship with the visa holder.
Dependent child
A dependent child is the natural or adopted child, or step-child, of the visa holder or their spouse who:
- is not married, engaged to be married or in a de facto relationship and
- has not turned 18
or - if they have turned 18, are wholly or substantially reliant on the visa holder or their spouse for their basic needs, or are incapacitated for work.
Health requirements
All family members must meet health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination.

Character requirements
All family members must be of good character to enter Australia. The information provided on the 'Character Declaration' section of your application will be used for character assessment.

Australian Values Statement
All visa applicants aged 18 years or over, must declare that they will respect Australian values and obey the laws of Australia. For applicants of this visa, the values statement is included in the general declaration section of the application form. By signing the form applicants will also be signing the values statement. Applicants for this visa will not be required to have read the Life in Australia book, but may do so if they wish.
Visa applicants are also encouraged to gain an understanding of Australia, its people and their way of life, before applying for this visa.
