About eVisitor
From 23 March 2013 applicants wishing to enter Australia for business visitor activity can apply for eVisitor (subclass 651).
Applicants who wish to enter Australia for short term non-ongoing highly specialised work, will need to apply for the Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa (subclass 400).
See:Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa (subclass 400)
eVisitor is for people who want to visit Australia for:
- tourism, such as holidays, recreation or seeing family or friends
- business purposes, such as attending a conference, negotiating or exploring business opportunities.
You must hold a passport from an eligible country to apply for this visa.
You must be outside Australia when you lodge your application for an eVisitor. You do not need to visit an immigration office and you will not receive a stamp or label in your passport. However, you will be given a confirmation for your records.
An eVisitor is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia. eVisitor can be accessed by airlines, travel agents and Australian border agencies.
What the eVisitor lets you do
An eVisitor allows you to enter Australia for tourism or business purposes. You may stay for up to three months during each visit during the 12 months from the date the eVisitor is granted.
Before you apply
Your passport
Your eVisitor is linked to the passport number you use in your application, and you must use the same passport to travel to Australia.
If you get a new passport, you must advise the department of the new passport details before you travel to Australia. Otherwise, you will be delayed at the airport and may be denied permission to board your plane.
If you get a new passport while you are in Australia, you do not need to apply for another eVisitor as long as the one you have is still valid. If you leave Australia while your eVisitor is still valid, you may travel on your new passport but you should keep your old passport with you, as your eVisitor is attached to that passport.
If you already hold an eVisitor
If you already have an eVisitor and apply for another one, if the new eVisitor is granted it will:
- be valid as soon as it is granted
- replace your existing eVisitor.
If you already hold a visa
If you already hold a visa and are then granted an eVisitor, the eVisitor could:
- be valid as soon as it is granted
- replace your existing visa.
If you already hold a visa, you should contact your nearest immigration office outside Australia before lodging an eVisitor application.
Cost
There is no charge for an eVisitor application.
