Students – Lodgement Procedure for Pakistani and Afghan Passport Holders

On this page

Student visa applicants from Pakistan or Afghanistan are strongly encouraged to lodge applications at least 12 weeks prior to course commencement.

Students should also allow additional time, if granted a visa, to arrange to obtain their visa label and to make travel/accommodation arrangements for Australia.

Applicants in Pakistan, Afghanistan or New Zealand

All paper student visa applications by Pakistani or Afghan passport holders in Pakistan, Afghanistan or New Zealand must be lodged at the Student Visa Centre (South Australia).

From 2 April 2013, student visa applicants who are Afghan or Pakistan nationals living in Pakistan can submit their student visa applications and provide their biometrics at an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in Pakistan. When Afghan or Pakistan nationals submit their student visa application through an Australian Visa Application Centre, their application will be couriered securely to the Adelaide Student Processing Centre in Australia where required under current legislation.
Note: Any other nationalities lodging their student visa applications in Pakistan also need to provide biometrics at the time of lodgement at an Australian Visa Application Centre, however their application will be couriered to the Australian Visa Office Islamabad.
See: Introduction of Biometrics for Student Visa Applicants in Pakistan

However, if you are transiting or exiting through another country, it is your responsibility to check with the relevant government authorities regarding requirements to show a visa label in your passport. The Australian Government cannot advise on other countries' requirements.

Passport holders who are outside Pakistan, Afghanistan or New Zealand

All paper student visa applications by Pakistani or Afghan nationals outside Australia who are not in Pakistan, Afghanistan or New Zealand are lodged at the nearest Australian government office overseas.

Education providers should direct Confirmations of Enrolment (CoE) to the nearest Australian government office overseas where the applicant intends to lodge their visa application.
