Applying for this visa

If you lodge your application in Australia, you must be in Australia to be granted your student guardian visa.

If you lodge your application outside Australia, you must be outside Australia to be granted your student guardian visa.

The table below outlines whether you can lodge your visa application in or outside Australia. Where you can lodge is determined by the assessment level of the student for whom you will be the guardian.

Note: To apply in Australia, you must provide exceptional reasons why the visa should be approved.

The Application Process

You can apply for this visa by mail or in person. You cannot apply online using eVisa.

Note: Complete applications are likely to be processed more quickly. If you cannot provide all the supporting documentation when you lodge your visa application, advise the department what documents are missing and when you expect to be able to provide them. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, refused.

  • Print and complete the application form.

  • Have the student's parent or legal custodian complete the student nomination form.
    Note: You may be the student's parent or legal custodian.

  • Attach all necessary documents to your application.

Lodging your Application

Lodge your application by mail or in person to your nearest departmental office.
Note: You can lodge at the same time as the student for whom you are guardian, or after the student arrives in Australia.

Note: If you are a citizen of Afghanistan or Pakistan (living in Afghanistan, Pakistan or New Zealand) your application will be processed at the Adelaide Offshore Student Processing Centre.
