Professional Development Visa (Subclass 470)
Overseas Employer Eligibility
Acceptable overseas employers for professional development programs are limited to:
- registered businesses outside Australia, which have been actively, lawfully and continuously operating for at least one year
- government agencies of a foreign country or a province, territory or state of a foreign country
- multilateral agencies which have been continuously operating for at least one year
- businesses and agencies with a demonstrated history of business relevant to and consistent with the proposed professional development program.
More than one overseas employer may participate in the same professional development program providing the following additional criteria are met:
- all the overseas employers to be involved in the program agree to the professional development agreement
- all the overseas employers to be involved in the program are listed on the sponsorship application form lodged by the Australian sponsoring organisation
- exactly the same program is to be delivered to all the listed overseas employers.
Overseas employers that are registered businesses must employ the people they are inviting to participate in the program. Government and multilateral agencies are not required to employ the participants but for those people that they do not employ, the agency will need to invite them to participate in the program.
Note: A multilateral agency is defined as an agency or organisation in which at least three national governments participate.
Example: United Nations, World Bank.
Before lodging an application, please read all related eligibility requirements.
