Who applies and when
The trainee lodges the application for an occupational trainee visa. A visa cannot be granted until after a nomination has been approved by the department.

Note: You should not make travel arrangements to Australia until after you have been granted your visa. Nomination approval does not guarantee that you will be granted an occupational trainee visa.

The correct, non-refundable visa application charge must be paid at the time you lodge your application.

Where you lodge your completed occupational trainee visa application depends on where you are at the time of lodgement.

Adelaide Occupational Trainee Processing Centre or any other state or territory office. Note: You must be in Australia for your visa to be granted. If an application is lodged at an office other than Adelaide, it will be receipted by the receiving office and forwarded to Adelaide for processing. All applications lodged prior to 1 July 2008 will continue to be processed in the receiving state or territory office. |

After you have lodged your visa application, you may be asked to provide further information considered relevant to your circumstances. The department will contact you. You may also be required to provide:
- results of a health examination: chest x-ray or other relevant medical tests
- police check.
