Definitions

Australian nominating organisation (the nominator)

An Australian nominating organisation:

  • is an established organisation that is actively operating in Australia
    or
  • is an Australian government organisation.
Dependent child

A dependent child is the natural or adopted child, or step-child, of the trainee or their spouse who:

  • is not married, engaged to be married or in a de facto relationship and
  • has not turned 18
    or
  • if they have turned 18, are wholly or substantially reliant on the trainee or their spouse for their basic needs, or are incapacitated for work.
Occupational trainee (the trainee)

An occupational trainee is someone who:

  • undertakes an occupational training program in Australia
  • lodges their own occupational trainee visa application.

Family members may be eligible to join the trainee in Australia for the period of the training program.

Spouse

A spouse is a person who is married to the trainee or is in a de facto relationship with the trainee.
