Sponsored Training

Adequate Means of Support for Occupational Trainee (Subclass 442) Visa

You need to demonstrate that you have access to adequate means of support to cover all expenses associated with your stay in Australia for you and any accompanying family members. You are not able to undertake work outside of the occupational training program.

Likely expenses include accommodation, food, and transport, clothing and school fees for dependent children (if applicable).

Allowances, accommodation and other assistance from your sponsor can also be considered when looking at your ability to support yourself and any family members including:

  • salary or wages as part of the occupational training
  • scholarships, bursaries or other allowances
  • salary paid by an overseas business or government
  • non-monetary benefits (for example, full board or accommodation, travel expenses)
  • any assurances of support or loans to cover expenses during period of stay
  • savings held by the applicant
  • support from family or relatives.

Note: The costs of relocating are high: even for a relatively short length of time. There are significant costs involved in travelling to Australia and setting up new accommodation.
