How this Visa Works

This visa allows certain senior executives in charge of an Australian office of an overseas organisation to bring to Australia a domestic worker from overseas to work in their private household in Australia. This visa recognises the representational and entertainment responsibilities of those executives while working in Australia.

For this visa you will need to be sponsored and nominated by an eligible Subclass 457 - Business (Long Stay) visa holder who is in charge of an Australian office of an overseas organisation. 

Before you lodge your application, either in or outside of Australia, the eligible 457 visa holder will be required to be approved as a domestic worker sponsor or have lodged a sponsorship application. The sponsor will need to nominate you to fill a position by lodging a nomination.

The process for obtaining a domestic worker visa is summarised in the table below.

Validity periods

The validity period of:

• sponsorship is three years
• nomination is 12 months
• visa period is for the period of stay covered in the nomination with a maximum stay of two years.

Bringing family

The following people may be included in your visa application:

• your partner
• your or your partner's dependent children
• other dependent relatives.

Secondary applicants who have not been listed in the visa application and who want to join you in Australia at a later time will need to lodge a separate visa application. A letter from your sponsor is required to be provided with the application confirming that the sponsor will accept responsibility for the secondary applicants for the period of their stay in Australia.

Labour market testing

Full labour market testing will be required in order to show that the executive has been unable to find a suitable person in Australia for the relevant position unless the executive can demonstrate compelling reasons for employing you.

Renewing your visa

If while in Australia you decide to apply for a further visa to extend your stay, you will need to complete a new visa application and attach appropriate evidence.

You will need to be sponsored by an eligible 457 visa holder that has been approved as a domestic worker sponsor. The eligible 457 visa holder must lodge a sponsorship and nomination if a valid sponsorship or nomination does not already exist.
