Sport Visa (Subclass 421)
About this Visa
This visa is designed for sportspeople to improve the quality of sport in Australia through participation in high-level competition and training with Australian residents.
Generally sportspeople come to Australia to:
- compete in a specific event or series of events, such as competing in the Australian Tennis Open or PGA
- be involved in sport under an arrangement with a sporting club to play/coach/instruct for a season, such as playing soccer in the Hyundai A League competition.
Who is this visa for?
This visa is for professional and amateur sportspeople, judges and adjudicators who want to come to Australia to participate in their field of sport.
Note: People wanting to enter Australia under the terms of a bilateral agreement
are provided for by the Government Agreement Visa (subclass 406).

How much will this visa cost?
In most cases you must pay a non-refundable visa application charge when you lodge your visa application.

There is no visa application charge if you are outside of Australia when you lodge your application and you intend to compete as an amateur competitor in a sporting event in Australia.
What does this visa let me do?
With this visa you can:
- participate in high-level competition or training in Australia
- compete against Australian residents
- stay and work or undertake activities in the nominated position in Australia with a maximum stay being two years
- bring any eligible secondary applicants with you to Australia – secondary applicants can work and study
- leave and enter Australia as many times as you want while your visa is valid.
