Step 2 - Sponsor Nominates a Position


The nomination process identifies the:

  • position to be filled
  • skills and experience required for the position, and
  • person who has been nominated to work or undertake the activity.

To make a nomination the organisation or eligible individual must have either:

  • already lodged a sponsorship application, or
  • had a previous sponsorship approved.

Nomination form

The sponsor must complete the nomination and attach all necessary documentation including the visa applicant’s application and their supporting documentation.

Nomination fee

There is a non-refundable fee for this application. However, in certain cases, under non–commercial engagements, the nomination fee may be waived. You should contact the Sydney Entertainment Processing Centre for more information.

Nomination checklist

The checklist details the information and supporting documents that you must provide with your application. Complete applications are likely to be processed more quickly. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, refused.

How and where to lodge

The sponsor should lodge the nomination and visa application, supporting documentation and appropriate fees.

For a nomination to be able to be approved it must be lodged as specified below. An application lodged in any other way will be returned to you.

After the sponsor lodges the nomination

The application will be considered by the department. In some case additional information may be requested to enable a decision to be made.

If an application is approved, the department will send the sponsor an approval letter by post or email. The nomination approval letter is to be retained.

If an application is not approved, the department will send a refusal letter by post or email advising of the decision, reasons for the decision and information about any review rights.
