Entertainment Visa (Subclass 420)
About this Visa
This temporary visa is designed to assist the Australian community's access to a wide range of social and cultural events and activities, without jeopardising the employment of Australians in the entertainment industry.
Who is this visa for?
This visa is for you if you intend to work temporarily in Australia in the entertainment industry. Visa applicants may intend to undertake work in film, television or live productions in either a performance or behind-the scenes role, such as, directors, producers and other production personnel.
For this visa you must be sponsored and nominated by one of the following:
- an organisation
- a government agency
- a foreign government agency
- an eligible individual.
Note: People wanting to enter Australia under the terms of a bilateral agreement are provided for by the Government Agreement visa (subclass 406).

How much will this visa cost?
There is a visa application charge for this visa. In certain cases under non–profit engagements, the visa application charge may be waived. You will need to provide evidence, at time of lodgement, that the engagements are for non-profit purposes. Organisations usually will be able to show that their non-profit status has been accepted by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or a state or territory government Department of Fair Trading.

What does this visa let me do?
This visa allows an individual or groups to:
- stay and work in the entertainment industry in Australia with a maximum stay of two years
- bring any eligible secondary applicants with you to Australia.
