Step 1 - Employer Nominates a Position


The employer must nominate the position to be filled.

The purpose of the nomination process is to identify the:

  • position to be filled
  • employer seeking to employ an overseas worker
  • skills and experience required for the position.

Nomination charge

There is a non-refundable charge for making a nomination.

Nomination checklist

The nomination checklist details the information and supporting documents that you must provide with your nomination application. Complete applications are likely to be processed more quickly. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, refused.

Information to help prepare your application

Information about certifying and translating documents, communicating with the department, using a migration agent, authorising another person to receive information from the department, and receiving assistance with your application.

Exemption from eligibility requirements

Complete the application form and attach all necessary documentation.

How and where to lodge

All new applications for the Employer Nominated Scheme will be processed in one of three centres of excellence.

You can lodge your application by post, fax, courier or in person (in Australia) directly with the relevant centre of excellence or at your nearest state or territory office. If you lodge your application at an office other than the relevant centre of excellence, it will be transferred for processing.

All applications lodged prior to 1 March 2009 will be processed in the receiving state or territory office.

When lodging applications:

The nomination application must be lodged with, or before, the visa application.
