The Australian Government is working closely with state, territory and local governments, and regional authorities to provide regional migration programs that support regional development and help supply the skill needs of regional employers.
These programs are designed to address the special circumstances of rural and regional Australia.
Regional Outreach Officers
The Regional Outreach Officer network plays a pivotal role in supporting regional migration and ensuring that regional Australia capitalises on the potential benefits from skilled migration.
Regional Outreach Officers are working closely with all states, territories and other key stakeholders in promoting and supporting skilled migration outcomes – in line with skill needs and development objectives of individual states and territories.
Officers play an outreach role and visit regional areas to develop and consolidate partnerships with regional communities. They are helping to ensure that information on regional migration is integrated across all levels of government and that there are clear pathways to information and assistance on regional migration processes.
The Regional Outreach Officer network is playing a key role in helping regional Australia respond to its skilled employment needs. Many regional areas have critical skill shortages and need skilled workers to fill job vacancies. Regional Outreach Officers are providing information on state, territory and regional migration initiatives that are designed to help deliver young, English-speaking, skilled migrants to regional areas. They are liaising with state and local governments and regional employers to raise awareness of regional migration initiatives and provide information on how these initiatives work.
Regional Outreach Officers are available to assist regional employers, state/territory governments and regional authorities to determine the most appropriate regional migration solution. They are located in the departmental offices of all Australian capital cities and Cairns.
