You should lodge a complete visa application with all necessary documentation attached to apply for this visa.

You must pay a non–refundable charge for the visa application.

Application checklist
The checklist provides all the information and supporting documents that you may be asked to provide with your application. Complete applications are likely to be processed more quickly. Incomplete applications may be delayed or, in some cases, refused.
If you cannot provide all the supporting documentation when you lodge your visa application, you should tell the departmental officer what documents are missing and when you expect to be able to provide them.

Other costs
In addition to the application charge, you must pay all other costs such as:
- required health examinations
- translating documents into English
- providing penal certificates for stays of over 12 months.

How and where to lodge your application
If you are applying in Australia, you will need to be in Australia at the time a decision is made to grant the visa.
If you are applying outside Australia, you will need to be outside Australia at the time a decision is made to grant the visa.
Eligible family members may apply with you or separately. If your family members apply separately, they must complete a separate application form and pay a separate application charge. Your sponsor will also need to complete a separate sponsorship application for any accompanying dependent family members not included in your initial application.
Family members applying separately must also complete Form 147 when they apply.

All Subclass 422 - Medical Practitioner (Temporary) visa applications are processed by one of three centres of excellence.

You can lodge your paper-based application:
- by post
- by courier
- in person directly to the appropriate centre of excellence or at any other state or territory office.
Note: If your application is lodged at an office that does not process these applications, it will be receipted and forwarded to the appropriate centre for processing.
All applications lodged prior to 1 July 2008 will continue to be processed in the receiving state or territory office.
You should lodge your application well in advance of your intended date of travel.
After you lodge your application
Your application will be considered by the department. In some cases you may be asked to provide additional information to enable a decision to be made.
Visa decision
If your visa application is approved the department will send you or your authorised recipient an approval letter by post or email. This letter contains:
- the Visa Grant Number
- the validity date of your visa
- the visa conditions.
If your visa application is not approved the department will send you or your authorised recipient a refusal letter by post or email advising you of:
- your review rights (if any)
- the time limit for lodging an appeal
- the reasons for this decision.
