What is the Skilled Occupation List?
If you wish to apply for any General Skilled Migration visa, you must nominate an occupation which is on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) at the time you lodge your application.
The Skilled Occupation List details:
- the number of points awarded for each occupation
- the name and address of the Australian organisation approved to assess a person's skills and/or qualifications for migration purposes for each occupation

What is a 'skilled occupation' for migration?
For most General Skilled Migration visas, you will satisfy the 'skilled occupation' requirement if you have the skills and/or qualifications of an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List.
How is the Skilled Occupation List structured?
The Skilled Occupation List lists occupations alphabetically in accordance with their title in the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) dictionary for each of the major group headings of:
- managers and administrators
- professionals
- associate professionals
- tradespersons and related workers
For each occupation, the list shows:
- the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations number for the occupation
- the relevant assessing authority for the occupation
- the number of points for skill an occupation is awarded for the "skill" factor under the points test
