- a dependent child of you or your partner
- a dependent relative of you or your partner.
See: General Skilled Migration Definitions
Adding family members to your temporary or provisional visa
Your partner, dependent children and other dependent relatives can still apply to accompany you in Australia if they were not included in your original application, if you currently hold one of the following temporary or provisional visas:
- Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487)
- Skilled – Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485)
- Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 475)
- Skilled – Recognised Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 476)
- Skilled – Independent Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 495)
- Skilled – Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 496).
Adding family members to your permanent visa
If you are applying for a permanent GSM visa outside Australia then you may add your partner and dependent children up until your application is finalised.
Information about what information to include when adding dependent family members on your application is available.
See: Evidence to Provide when Adding Family Members
If you marry, become pregnant or have a child after lodging your application, then you need to notify the department of your change in circumstances by submitting Form 1022.
See: Form 1022 Notification in Changes of Circumstances (238KB PDF file)
Withdrawing family members from your application
If you would like to withdraw a dependent family member from your application, you must send a request letter signed by you to the office processing your application. The letter must also be signed by the applicant being removed if that person is 18 years of age or over. The letter can be scanned and emailed to the GSM Processing Centre.
Email: gsm.documents@immi.gov.au
Note: Any dependent family member removed from an application will still need to satisfy any applicable health and character requirements.
