Skilled – Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175)

Nominated Skilled Occupation – Eligibility

You must obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation before you lodge your application for this visa.

You must nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) that is relevant to your skills and qualifications. While no points will be awarded you still need to nominate a skilled occupation, and have a skills assessment completed by the relevant assessing authority.

You cannot apply for this visa if your nominated occupation is not on the SOL. A complete list of the points awarded for each occupation is available on the SOL.
See: Skilled Occupation List

Evidence to attach to your application

To ensure that your application is complete, and to help us process your application more quickly, you must attach:

  • a certified copy of a completed skills assessment document which confirms that your skills have been assessed as suitable for your nominated occupation
  • one of the following:
    • a certified copy of your post-secondary qualifications, such as your degree or diploma certificate and your transcripts or mark sheets
    • certified copies of your work references provided by your employers that detail the position/s you held and the duties you performed (if you have worked in an occupation where substantial work experience may be accepted instead of post-secondary qualifications).

These will be examined to determine whether your qualification/s and work experience are relevant to your nominated occupation.

Before lodging an application, please read all related requirements.
