Step 1 - Individual Applies to be a Sponsor


When the sponsor applies to be a superyacht crew sponsor they will be applying for the relevant sponsor class to allow them to sponsor a person applying for the Superyacht Crew (Subclass 488) visa.

Sponsor approval may be valid for up to three years.

Sponsorship application

The sponsor must complete the sponsorship application and attach all necessary documentation.

How and where to lodge your application

The sponsor may complete a paper application form and send it by post, courier or fax to the Brisbane Global Processing Centre in Australia.

With the sponsors knowledge and consent, a third party, such as a shipping agent, can complete and lodge their sponsorship application on their behalf from information that they provide to the third party.

With the sponsor's consent the third party may also be the contact person and authorised recipient for written communications about their application to be a superyacht crew sponsor.

Application charge

There is no visa application charge.

After you lodge your application

If the sponsor provides all documentation and information in their application, and all eligibility requirements have been satisfied, their applications should be processed within two to four weeks of lodgement.

Sponsorship decision

If the sponsorship is approved, the department will send the sponsor an approval letter by post or email. The sponsorship approval letter is to be retained. A copy of the sponsorship approval letter is to be provided to each applicant they intend to sponsor. The visa applicant will be required to provide, with their visa application, the sponsor approval letter or a receipt that the sponsorship application has been lodged.

If the sponsorship is not approved, the department will send the sponsor a refusal letter by post or email advising of the decision, reasons for the decision and information about any review rights.
