Settlement Reporting

The Settlement Reporting Facility utilises the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s Settlement Database to provide the general public with statistical data on permanent arrivals to Australia.

Please note that due to an error with the Settlement Target Group filter, this filter has been temporarily removed until further notice.

You can access Reports you have created on this computer before by selecting the My Reports link.

Notes:

1. Data available through the DIAC Settlement Reporting Facility (SRF) are updated on the 4th of each month.

2. Data are compiled from a number of sources within DIAC and other Commonwealth agencies.

3. Data represent permanent migrants who arrived in Australia on a permanent visa or were granted a permanent visa while in Australia (certain provisional visa holders are also included).

4. Reports generated through the SRF include migrants who arrived in Australia on a permanent visa (or were granted a permanent visa whilst in Australia) during the selected timeframe of the report and currently reside in the selected location of the report.

Caveats:

1. Locations of migrants in SRF reports may not be current due to limitations in the capture of residential information and may result in inaccurate counts of migrants in some geographical areas.

2. The collection of data in the Settlement Database is not mandatory and may result in an undercount in SRF reports.

A 1 way report will display results for one report criterion as a list.

A 2 way report will show results for two report criteria in a table with columns and rows.

A 3 way report will display results for three report criteria as a cross tab Excel spreadsheet.

Note: Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge is required to fully utilise 3 way reports.

2. Select the Report Criteria

The Report Criteria determine the topic of your report.

For example, if you choose to run a 2 way report and select the report criteria 'gender' and 'migration stream', your report will display the distribution of female and male migrants across each migration stream.

Filters allow you to focus your report on specific geographic, demographic and visa related information. Filters are optional, and you can choose one or many.

On the next screen you can refine your filters.

4. Select the Date Type

Arrival Date Visa Grant Date

If you choose Arrival Date, your report will be run using data relating to migrants who have been granted a visa and have entered Australia.

If you choose Visa Grant Date, your report will be run using data relating to migrants who have been granted a visa, but not necessarily entered Australia.

Arrival Date should be used for most reports.

5. Select the Date Range

Start Date:
End Date:

Use the Date Range to specify the time period for which you want to run your report. A large date range can be useful for determining settlement trends over time.

Choose your filtering options
Learn more

Filter options are determined by the filter choices you made on the previous screen. Here you can limit your report to as many or as little options as you require.

Clicking on an option will select it and it will move to the right-hand box. Clicking on the option again will deselect it.

Your report results will be limited to the filter options you select. For example, if you chose “Visa sub-class” as a filter, and then “(801) Spouse” as a filter option, your report will only show data from migrants who hold a sub-class 801 visa.

If you click the Next button without selecting any filter options, the filter you previously chose will not apply to your report.

You can view and edit your filter options again if you require.

Select the sort order for the report

The Sort Order you choose will determine how data in your report is displayed. You can select 'In order of highest to lowest', and results with the highest frequency will appear at the top of your report; or you can choose to view your results in alphabetical order.

If you chose to sort your report 'In order of highest to lowest', you also have the option of viewing only the top 10, 20 or 30 results. If you do not make a selection from the drop-down list, your report will show all available results.
