Attorney-General's Department

The Attorney-General's Department supports the government in maintaining and improving Australia's system of law and justice including providing legal advice on family law and international family law matters (including international child abduction).

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service manages the security and integrity of Australia's borders.

Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service

The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) manages quarantine controls at our borders to minimise the risk of exotic pests and diseases entering the country. AQIS also provides import and export inspection and certification to help retain Australia's highly favourable animal, plant and human health status and wide access to overseas export markets.

Australian Taxation Office

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is the Government's principal revenue collection agency, and is part of the Treasurer's portfolio. The ATO's role is to manage and shape tax, excise and superannuation systems that fund services for Australians.

Centrelink

Centrelink delivers a range of Commonwealth services to the Australian community, assisting people to become self-sufficient and supporting those in need.

Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) is the lead government agency providing national leadership in education and workplace training, transition to work and conditions and values in the workplace. Through the Australian Government workplace website, DEEWR offers a range of labour market information to migrants interested in seeking work in Australia.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) role is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves working to strengthen Australia's security, enhancing Australia's prosperity and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

DFAT provides foreign and trade policy advice to the government and works with other government agencies to ensure that Australia's pursuit of its global, regional and bilateral interests is coordinated effectively.

Medicare Australia

Medicare Australia is an Australian Government agency and plays an integral role in the Australian health sector. Its objective is to assist in improving health outcomes in Australia.

Medicare is Australia's universal health insurance scheme which makes health care affordable for all Australians and gives all Australians access to health care services.

Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA)

The Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (Office of the MARA) was established on 1 July 2009 as a discrete office attached to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The functions of the Office of the MARA are set out in s316 of the Migration Act 1958.

Activities undertaken by the Office of the MARA include registering and re-registering migration agents, administering the continuing professional development program and investigating complaints and taking appropriate disciplinary action against registered migration agents who breach the migration agents' Code of Conduct.

Passports

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issues passports, both in Australia and overseas, to be used as evidence of identity and citizenship by Australians who are travelling internationally.

Study in Australia

Austrade maintains a website entitled Study in Australia, which provides information for international students studying and living in Australia, including scholarship programs and other international student matters.
