Visa office - general information
The department processes all applications by people interested in visiting or migrating to Australia.
All travellers to Australia except for Australian and New Zealand citizens, and certain UN staff based in Timor must obtain a visa before travelling to Australia.

Business visitors (up to 3 months stay)

Medical treatment in Australia
Visiting hospitals or seeking medical treatment in Australia
If you are entering a medical facility in Australia for any reason and if you already hold or seek to travel to Australia on a visitor visa, business short stay visitor visa, or electronic travel authority (ETA), you will require a chest x-ray before you enter Australia.
If you seek medical treatment yourself (including pregnancy), you must apply for a medical treatment visitor visa before you travel (see 'Medical treatment in Australia' below). Further details of Australia's health checking requirements are available at the Visa Office or Information form 1163i.

This requirement does not apply to Australian or New Zealand Citizens, certain UN ID Card Holders, those holding an Australian Permanent Resident visa, or those already holding Student, Medical Treatment or most Temporary Resident Visas (except some short stay subclass 415 visas issued at Dili). If in any doubt, please contact the Visa Office before you travel.

Online visa applications
Citizens of designated countries can lodge a number of visa applications online. These visas are not applicable for medical treatment in Australia.

Penal checking
People intending to lodge a migration or temporary resident visa application will generally be asked to produce a penal check certificate from countries of current and former residence. This is particularly important to note if you are a resident or a citizen of a country other than Timor Leste. Penal certificates for Timor Leste can be obtained from the National Investigation Department, PNTL, Dili.

Other information
Acceptable certificates of birth, marriage, etc
Please note that where evidence is required for events that have occurred within Timor Leste this office generally only accepts Civil Certificates of Birth, Death and Marriage issued by the Timor Leste Civil Registry. Offices of the Civil Registry are located within the Ministry of Justice Building in Dili, and in Baucau.
Documents that are generally not accepted for this purpose include Baptismal or other documents issued by religious authorities, or those issued by former Indonesian Civil authorities prior to 2000.
Panel doctors
Health examinations for Australian Visas may only be carried out by specially appointed panel doctors. Panel doctors located in Timor Leste are listed on our main website.

Australian passports
The Immigration section does not process Australian passport applications. Enquiries should be directed to the Consular Section of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade within the Embassy. Further information is available on the Embassy's main Home page.

Timor Leste Immigration and Visas
This office does not provide advice or otherwise deal with matters relating to visas for Timor Leste. All such enquiries should be directed to the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Timor Leste (for those outside Timor Leste), to the Timor Leste Immigration Department, located
on the ground floor of
the Interior Ministry building on in Vila Verde in Dili (near Obrigado Barracks), or to the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Government Buildings (GPA), Dili.
