Applying by post
If you are in Australia, you must complete and post the application form or a letter requesting a Resident Return visa, and your valid passport and payment by registered post to your nearest departmental office in Australia.

If you are outside Australia, you must complete and post the application form with your valid passport and payment by registered post to your
nearest departmental office overseas.

Applying in person
If you are in Australia, you can visit any departmental office with your payment and valid passport. You do not need to fill in the application Form 1085 (Application for a Resident Return Visa).

If you are outside Australia, you can visit any departmental office overseas with your completed application form, payment and your valid passport. Contact the office beforehand to confirm what payment method is acceptable.
