Interview requirements

If you are requested to attend an interview you must bring your passport and all outstanding documentation with you. Your application will be assessed at the interview, and where possible, a decision will be made.

Invitation to comment

If another person gives the department information that could result in you being refused a visa, the department will give you an opportunity to comment on the information. You will need to comment by a set date.

Processing your permanent (second stage) Spouse (subclass 801) visa

You applied for both a temporary and permanent visa when you lodged your application.

Shortly before you are eligible to be assessed for a permanent Spouse (subclass 801) visa (usually two (2) years after application lodgement), you will receive a letter from the department asking you to provide further information relating to your application.

Important: To ensure that you receive this letter, please inform the department (preferably in writing) if you change your  contact details.

All applications lodged with the department on or after 1 October 2006, and therefore eligible for assessment for a permanent Spouse (subclass 801) visa on or after 1 October 2008 will be processed in the department’s Melbourne office.

All applications lodged with the department before 1 October 2006 and eligible for assessment for a permanent Spouse (subclass 801) visa before 1 October 2008, will continue to be processed in your nearest state or territory office.
