How and Where to Lodge an Application

If the child is in Australia when their application is lodged:

  • the application must be lodged in Australia
  • the child must be in Australia when the visa is granted.

If the child is outside Australia when their application is lodged:

  • the application must be lodged outside Australia
  • the child must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.

Outside Australia

Applicants should lodge their application with the nearest Australian mission:

  • by post
  • by courier
  • in person.

Note: At some departmental offices outside Australia, an appointment must be made to lodge applications in person.

From 1 April 2009, applicants in Australia must lodge their application by post or courier to the following addresses:

Note: From 1 April 2009, failure to lodge a Dependent Child (Subclass 445) visa application in Australia at ACTRO will mean that no valid Dependent Child (Subclass 445) application has been made.
