Applying for this Visa

These pages provide information to help you understand and apply for this visa. Before applying for this visa, applicants and sponsors should also read the Partner Migration information booklet.

Application charge

There is an application charge for this visa. This will usually not be refunded if the application is unsuccessful, or if the application is withdrawn after it has been lodged.

Only one application charge is payable if dependents of the child are included in the application, or siblings apply together, at the same time and place.
See: Fees & Charges

Other costs

In addition to the application charge the applicant will need to pay for any health examinations. The applicant may also be required to pay a charge for obtaining police checks. This charge varies from country to country. When the applicant is required to obtain their own police checks, they are personally responsible for all arrangements. There may be other costs associated with the application, such as translating documents into English.

How and where to lodge your application

If the child is in Australia when their application is lodged the application must be lodged in Australia and the child must be in Australia when the visa is granted.

If the child is outside Australia when their application is lodged the application must be lodged outside Australia and the child must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.

In Australia

Applicants in Australia must lodge their application together with all necessary supporting documentation and application charges, by post or courier at the Child and Other Family Processing Centre in Perth.
See: Child and Other Family Processing Centre

Note: Failure to lodge a Dependent Child (Subclass 445) visa application in Australia at the Child and Other Family Processing Centre will mean that no valid Dependent Child (Subclass 445) application has been made. Applications for this visa cannot be lodged in person.

Outside Australia

Applicants should lodge their application together with all necessary supporting documentation and application charges, with the nearest Australian mission:

  • by post
  • by courier
