Application charge

There is an application charge for this visa. This will usually not be refunded if the application is unsuccessful, or if the application is withdrawn after it has been lodged.
See: Fees & Charges

Other costs

In addition to the application charge the applicant will need to pay for any health examinations. You may be required to pay a charge for obtaining police checks. This charge varies from country to country. When you are required to obtain your own police checks, you are personally responsible for all arrangements. There may be other costs associated with the application, such as translating documents into English.

Adding family members to your application

In some circumstances dependent children can be added to the application after it has been lodged.

Processing priority

Under Australia's family reunion migration program, a high priority is given to child and partner visa applications. Other family applications have a lower processing priority, and you should expect a substantial wait before your application is finalised.

In the other family categories, carer is given priority over aged dependent relative and remaining relative.

How and where to lodge your application

You must lodge your application in Australia and you must be in Australia when the visa is granted.

All Remaining Relative (subclass 835) applications lodged on or after 1 April 2009 will be processed in the Australian Capital Territory and Regions Office (ACTRO).

Lodge your application in person or by post at either the ACTRO Child and Other Family Processing Centre (preferred) or your nearest state or territory office.
