Fiscal Impact of Migrants to Australia
Objectives of the study
This project is in two parts:
Part 1 updated the Commonwealth model using the DIMIA model that estimates the impact of permanent migrants on the Commonwealth Budget. The update:
- uses the previous model that was developed on an accrual bases, re-based to the 2000-01 fiancial year;
- incorporates the GST arrangements, noting that both the income and expenses side of the model are affected;
- links the model to the States-Territories' budgetary impact mode; and
- estimates the net impact of migrants on the Commonwealth Budget.
Part 2 examines the relationship between the age of permanent migrants at arrival, and their net impact over their lifetimes on the Commonwealth and State and Territory Budgets.
