Summary of findings for LSIA 3
Between wave one and wave two of LSIA 3 there was a substantial increase in earnings. Median annual earnings for Family stream PAs and Former Overseas Student PAs rose by around $5000 over this period. Average annual earning of Offshore Independent PAs and Concessional Family SAL PAs rose around $7000 and Business Skills/ENS/RSMS PAs increased their earnings by $10 000 on average.
Compared with previous LSIAs, annual earnings in LSIA 3 were also higher in real terms than previous LSIAs. At wave two of LSIA 3, median earnings of Business Skills/ENS/RSMS PAs were $70 000 pa, an increase of $20 000 compared to LSIA 2. For other categories of migrants, the increase in earnings was less marked – an increase of $2000 to $5000 pa between LSIA 2 and LSIA 3.
In wave two of LSIA 3, skilled PAs earnt approximately $15 000 pa more than their migrating unit spouses.

Almost 60 per cent of those surveyed brought assets of one form or another into Australia. Some 42 per cent brought in personal effects, 35 per cent brought in funds and 5 per cent brought in capital equipment.
