National Agenda for a Multicultural Australia

Objectives

The Commonwealth's objectives in relation to community relations are to:

• promote better understanding of the need for and meaning of multiculturalism as a framework of public policies designed to benefit all Australians;

• encourage different cultural groups to share their distinctive heritage with their fellow Australians, and to encourage the mainstream of society to facilitate the expression of this diverse heritage; and

• promote greater respect for and acceptance of the diversity amongst the various constituent groups of the Australian population.
