DIAC expands citizenship testing in NT
Media Release - 1 April 2008
Citizenship testing has begun in the north-eastern town of Nhulunbuy as the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) expands its testing facilities in the Northern Territory.
Citizenship testing is also expected to begin in Katherine later this month.
The expansion adds to arrangements under which citizenship testing is conducted in Darwin from Monday to Friday each week, and on two days each month in Alice Springs.
Citizenship tests are expected to be available in Nhulunbuy and Katherine every quarter - phone 08 8946 3175 to make an appointment.
DIAC has increased the number of test locations in response to concerns raised by local councils and community leaders about travel distances for applicants.
The citizenship test introduced in October last year includes 20 multiple choice questions based on the resource booklet Becoming an Australian Citizen.
The booklet can be obtained from the department by phoning 131 880. It can also be downloaded from the DIAC citizenship website.
