Australia top website hit before Dutch migration expo
Media Release - 7 March 2008
Australia is set to be one of the most popular exhibitors at an expo in Holland this weekend which will link skilled European workers with Australian employers and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
A DIAC spokesman said today that information about Australia had attracted the largest number of hits on the website of the event to be held in Utrecht on March 8 and 9.
‘The number of Dutch people in Australia’s skilled migration program has tripled in the past decade,’ the spokesman said.
‘Australia this year has more than 100 000 places in its skilled migration stream with vacancies in all states and territories in more than 90 occupations.
‘Skilled people who move to Australia help meet demands for workers including doctors, nurses, engineers, computer professionals, and school teachers, and tradespeople including electricians, carpenters, joiners, motor mechanics, bricklayers, fitters, and plumbers.’
The Utrecht fair comes a week before the two-day Australia Needs Skills expo in London which will link skilled British workers with scores of Australian public and private-sector employers.
This year’s London expo is set to attract twice as many potential skilled migrants as a similar event in 2006. More than 4000 skilled people are registered to meet Australian exhibitors including representatives of all state and territory governments.
‘These expos link Australian employment specialists with skilled workers,’ the DIAC spokesman said.
‘Employer-sponsored migration is a high priority in a skilled migration stream which has economic benefits for everyone in Australia,’ the spokesman added.
