Immigration visit to Exmouth
Media Release - 16 January 2007
Exmouth businesses are learning how to attract more overseas skilled workers and migrants to the town through a series of visits by officers from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA).
DIMA regional outreach officer Lisa Raschi visited the rapidly expanding tourist destination recently, holding a series of successful meetings with local businesses to provide them with information on the best ways to attract and retain valuable skilled employees from overseas.
Ms Raschi said skilled migration had economic and social benefits for regional Australia and the Australian Government had a range of initiatives to attract migrants to regional areas.
‘There are a number of options employers can explore, including the Regional Sponsored Migration scheme which allows permanent entry for skilled workers in regional Australia,’ Ms Raschi said.
‘Another option is the subclass 457 visa which allows skilled workers and their families to come to Australia for up to four years,’ she said.
Ms Raschi said many employers were keen to learn more about skilled migration and she was planning another visit to Exmouth later this year.
Employers can find out more about the options available to them by checking the department's website.
