DIMA Welcomes Victorian Public Affairs Officer

The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) has appointed a public affairs officer, Geoffrey Leach, to its Victorian State Office.

Mr Leach was a journalist with the ABC in Sydney, London, Canberra and Bangkok, before being seconded to the Parliamentary and Media Branch of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in 1987.

After permanent appointment to DFAT in 1988, postings in policy followed to Manila (First Secretary), Ankara (Deputy Ambassador) and Jakarta (Counsellor Cultural Affairs). Mr Leach also managed embassy public affairs issues during his postings.

Mr Leach has worked closely with DIMA in Australia and overseas as a journalist and diplomat on a wide range of immigration and multicultural issues.
