Heritage Listed Buildings the Key in Preferred Design Concept

Phillip Smith Conwell Architects (PSC) has been selected as the preferred Design Consultant for the proposed redevelopment of Stage 1 at the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre in Sydney, the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs announced today.
The Department said the PSC concept, which takes the heritage listed buildings into consideration, was an excellent response to the very detailed design brief.
'The design brief called for innovative and environmentally friendly designs that demonstrated a clear regard for the personal needs and dignity of the residents, and encouraged self-management to the maximum degree possible, consistent with the good order and security of the facility,' a Departmental spokesperson said.
Once contractual arrangements with the preferred Design Consultant are finalised, preparation of a business case for the redevelopment project will commence. The business case would then considered for Budget funding by the Government.
