Companies Shortlisted for Immigration Detention Contract

Media Release - DPS 30/2002

The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs today announced that four companies had been selected to proceed to the next phase of the Detention Services Tender process.

Five companies responded to the Expression of Interest (EOI) with each response carefully evaluated against the selection criteria established for the EOI process.

The four companies are: Australasian Correctional Management Pty Ltd; Australian Protective Service; Group 4 Falck Global Solutions Pty Ltd; and Management & Training Corporation Pty Ltd.

Chubb Protective Services, the fifth company, was not selected to proceed in the tender process.

The request for Expressions of Interest was released on 23 March 2002, following an announcement in May 2001 that the provision of detention services would go to competitive tender. An exposure draft of the request for tender was released for industry comment in December 2001.

The tender for detention services will include requirements for the provision of a comprehensive range of services including security, health, educational and recreational programs and facilities management.

It is expected that the final request for tender will be issued in June 2002 with tenders closing in August 2002. Following a detailed evaluation period, it is expected that the new contract would become operational before the end of 2002.
