Expressions of Interest Sought for Provision of Immigration Detention Services

Media Release - DPS 17/2002

The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) today announced the release of a request for Expressions of Interest for the provision of comprehensive detention services at immigration detention facilities across Australia.

This follows an announcement in May 2001 that the provision of detention services would go to competitive tender and an exposure draft request for tender was released for industry comment in December 2001, which is also available on the DIMIA website: http://www.immi.gov.au/about/contracts-tenders/index.htm.

The closing date for lodging Expressions of Interest is Wednesday, 24 April 2002 and the document can be downloaded from the DIMIA website at http://www.immi.gov.au/about/contracts-tenders/index.htm.

The request for Expressions of Interest will form the basis of a tender for detention services, which will include requirements for the provision of a comprehensive range of services including security, health, educational and recreational programs and facilities management.

It is expected that the final request for tender will be issued in May 2002.
