Children not behind razor wire

Readers may have been misled by the undated photograph of children behind razor wire in the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre ('Agency demands shorter detention for illegals', C-M, Jan 10).

There have been no children in detention centres since mid 2005 and much of the razor wire surrounding Villawood was removed in September of the same year.

While the department accepts that parts of Villawood require upgrading, the picture does not accurately represent the facilities within centres.
