Nauru Processing Centre
Letter to the Editor - The Canberra Times
30 June 2005
Dear Sir/Madam
Danielle Cronin’s story on the Rahmati family (Harrowing journey from razor wire to freedom, 30 June 2005) continues to reinforce myths about the operation of the Nauru Offshore Processing Centres.
There has never been any razor wire at the Nauru centres. Dangerous areas, such as power generators, are surrounded by barbed wire to prevent access.
Your readers may also be interested in knowing that the centres are open during weekdays, and Saturdays, so that residents are free to move around the island and mix with the local community.
