Letter to the Editor - Australian Financial Review
17 June 2005
Dear Sir/Madam
Your report (Look who’s taken over the asylum, 17/06/05) has some erroneous claims.
This person was given an opportunity to review the contents of his bag before he departed Australia – as your reporter Julie Macken was told.
The department only provides basic identity information – certainly not religious documents – to destination countries, so that people to be removed can obtain travel documents.
The same goes for letters to destination countries, which only provide basic identity information, so that people to be removed can obtain travel documents.
People being considered for removal have had their protection claims thoroughly considered and have been found to not face a well-founded fear of persecution under the Refugee’s Convention.
