DIMIA Decisions
Letter to the Editor - The Canberra Times
14 June 2005
Dear Sir/Madam
Professor Maley might be interested to know the following about the quality of decision-making by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (Cavalier attitude to asylum-seekers due to a lack of judicial oversight, 14/6/2005).
Decisions by the department are overwhelmingly upheld by the courts.
In 2003-04, approximately 94 per cent of matters decided at hearing were resolved in favour of the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.
