No Firearms

Dear Sir/Madam
An article by Ashlea Scicluna (No Visa: store stormed and manager Eddie is whisked away, Sunday Age, 6/3/05) wrongly suggests that immigration officers were carrying firearms during an operation to locate visa overstayers.
Immigration officers do not and never have carried firearms.
On those occasions where there are concerns over safety of staff, or where
police may have an interest, police may participate in the operation.
