Huge Fiscal Benefits for New Migrants
Letter to the Editor - Herald Sun
30 May 2005
Dear Sir/Madam
From the 2005-06 Budget papers, Mr Masanauskas (Huge bill for new migrants, 30-05-2005) identifies the estimated costs over four years of providing services to an additional 20,000 skilled migrants each year.
There is no recognition, however, that these same migrants will provide much larger additional taxation revenue to the Budget.
Conservative modelling by Access Economics suggests that additional taxation revenue from an additional 20,000 skilled migrants each year will exceed $1.5 billion over the same period.
The article could equally have been headlined “Huge Fiscal Benefits from New Migrants”.
