Managing Australia's Borders

Volunteers and community groups

The provision of recreational and educational activities is an important service for people in immigration detention facilities. Your support in assisting people in detention with this service is appreciated by the department.

Volunteers and community groups seeking to visit immigration detention facilities to conduct activities for people in immigration detention should provide details of the proposed activities to the detention services provider manager at the specific facility. When selecting community organisations to undertake activities within facilities, centre management ensures that only organisations with the capability to provide a beneficial service to them are selected. Members of these organisations may be required to provide good character clearances from the Police.

Visitor's application

A completed Visitor's Application Form must be provided to the detention service provider manager for access to a designated facility. The form can be posted or faxed prior to the visit.
