Detention Services

The Immigration Detention Advisory Group (IDAG)

In February 2001, the Immigration Detention Advisory Group (IDAG) was established to provide advice to the Minister on the appropriateness and adequacy of services, accommodation and amenities at the immigration detention centres.

The IDAG met for the first time on 5 April 2001. Since its formation, members either individually or collectively visit all immigration detention centres and several alternative places of detention.

In 2006, the Minister revised the IDAG Terms of Reference to better reflect the broader role of the IDAG within the immigration detention reform agenda. The revision acknowledges the IDAG's significant contributions to the immigration detention program consultative process and the development of key immigration detention program strategies.
