Port Augusta Immigration Residential Housing
Re-opened in 2010, the Port Augusta Immigration Residential Housing (IRH) is located in Ellis Close, Port Augusta.
The Port Augusta IRH allows people in immigration detention to live in a more domestic environment and permits a greater degree of autonomy over their life while remaining formally in immigration detention.
Accommodation and facilities
The Port Augusta IRH comprises of eight single storey houses capable of accommodating different family compositions. One house is configured to accommodate people with disabilities. The layout of the houses maximises the amount of privacy provided to each house. Each house is fully self-contained to enable independent living with small outdoor areas adjacent to each house to give some level of privacy without interfering with security. There is a ninth house which is used for the administrative purposes. The floor area of each house is approximately 95m².
All operational and maintenance aspects of the centre are undertaken by the Detention Services Provider.
